Shortis & Simpson- Raise a Glass and Ruffle Some Feathers
A Toast to a Better Year!
John Shortis and Moya Simpson, Bungendore’s own musical satirists, are coming to Contentious Character with an air of optimism, to present Raise a Glass and Ruffle Some Feathers, an original show that doesn’t shy away from the year we’ve all just survived, but will ask you to charge your glasses and drink to the hope of a more fruitful 2021. It can’t get any worse.
And what better place to drink a toast than a winery! Not just any winery but one that managed, in the middle of a drought, bushfire smoke and pandemic, to harvest grapes, produce wine, and deliver takeaway meals while dodging kangaroos and wombats on dark country roads.
Meanwhile in Bungendore, Shortis and Simpson kept beavering away through the restrictions like nothing had happened, and emerged with a batch of new songs that take a humorous, wry, poignant look at a year that was not always funny.
Now as a new year is upon us the songs keep coming out, ruffling the feathers of political shenanigans, while holding a glass up to better times.
Come, commiserate and celebrate, laugh and cry, dine, and drink a toast to a brighter light. Salut!
